The purpose of The Spirit of Independents is to inspire citizens — that's all of you — to end the rule-by-stagnant-partisanship of major-party officeholders, either by running for office yourselves as Independents, or by supporting those who do.
And while Spirit's legal structure forbids us to direct, control, coordinate or otherwise provide aid to any specific campaign or identified candidate, our message — though limited to inspiration — is vital.

Demand of your candidates only good values and a willingness to sort through the complicated issues of these critical days and then cast the vote most likely to preserve America's future and freedoms.
Support them by what you do, in committing your finances and time. Pass out flyers in your neighborhoods, put their yard signs in your yard, join others holding up their names on the sidewalks by the malls, at the intersections, and on the side of America's roads — whether by the well-trimmed edges of paved streets or beside the overgrown ditches running along the dirt ones.
And on Election Day, storm the precinct ballot boxes, an army of one, voting Independents into office.
They will learn as they go along.
Your candidates will fail at that — Good! Independent candidates will not have access to the deep pockets of the national political establishment or the corporate plutocrats. They don't need your money — they need your time commitment, your word of mouth and digital sharing, and they will need your vote.
They do not need to know the pat phrases, the trite euphemisms of Washington politicians; or to utter the debate-night zinger-phrases of those who believe the best leadership is leadership by insult. They don't need to know the phrases of debt-ceiling brinksmanship; every third word they speak need not be a threat to impeach; and they should never, even in their fever dreams, mention the word "filibuster" — except when expressing their intention to eliminate it.
Do require them to understand the distinction between the false patriotism of blind allegiance to a moribund political party, and the enlightened patriotism of one who knows that the threats closing in on America's future do not fall neatly into any partisan camp.
And insist your candidates be willing to cross any line, scale any mountain, offend any partisan friend, by using their objectivity, their imagination, and if necessary their last breath, to preserve and protect the life of a country that for all her historic achievements and faults, still has a potential for greatness that, when realized, will silence her most intractable critics, and stun even her best friends.
